Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV)



As the name implies, electric vehicles are battery-based. This type of plural is known as an electric car. Not a few people call it a pure electric car. BEVs use batteries as the main power source to drive electric motors. There is no fuel or combustion process at all. So it is certainly environmentally friendly because it does not produce emissions.


Battery energy is recharged through power lines such as electronic devices that also use batteries. The most common type of battery used is Lithium-ion. Battery technology in this battery-based electric car then makes the banderol difficult to press. That's why the price of BEV electric cars is still relatively high.


Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV)



If HEV is more commonly known or called a hybrid car. It uses two systems as the driving source. Namely conventional engines or fuel and electric motors. The electric motor's power source also uses batteries. But not as big as BEV capacity. Conventional engines use fuel oil.


Although using batteries, hybrid cars do not need to be charged with electric plugs. The power will be charged automatically when the car moves using a conventional engine. Other energies such as the result of regenerative braking can also support recharging the battery.


Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV)



This type of PHEV electric car combines a BEV and HEV system at once. Because it is a hybrid, it still carries a conventional engine, both as a source of drive and helps to charge the battery.


The battery used by PHEV is also as large as a BEV. To charge, it can plug it into a power source (plug-in). Utilizing an engine with fuel oil to charge the battery can also be. So that it is more flexible and can reach longer distances.


With that function as well, some PHEV cars offer the ability to provide a power source. Like a large generator that can continue to work as long as there is fuel oil.


Not just from charging the battery. PHEV drive from the engine or electric motor can generally be used alternately or simultaneously (AWD / 4WD).


Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle (FCEV)



The latter type of electric vehicle is more unique. Not using conventional machines. It does not also use batteries as in BEVs. The source of energy is obtained from the use of hydrogen.


If in FCEV, what is filled is hydrogen. While the fuel cell itself is a device similar to the battery in electric cars. It produces energy from the chemical reaction of the combination of hydrogen and oxygen. It then produces energy and water. The energy will be stored by the module to be distributed throughout the car. While water is discharged through channels resembling exhaust.


The system on this FCEV is considered to solve the problem of charging the battery on the BEV. But FCEV technology is no less expensive than BEV. So that the population of FCEV vehicles in the world is not as much as electric and hybrid cars.
